Printmaking MFA students undertake an intensive two-year, 60-credit graduate course of study in which they explore a broad range of approaches to printmaking, including 3-D installation, digital print media, large-scale printmaking, photo processes and the traditional disciplines. The curriculum emphasizes interdisciplinarity and inquiry to enrich practices and create theoretical, philosophical and concrete links between art and society.

The program nurtures a close-knit, supportive community of students, with听access to and the extensive resources of a large, public research university to nurture their practice. Students take full advantage of the school's location in , a vibrant art center with a strong printmaking tradition.听Many Tyler MFA students choose to pursue听study abroad opportunities at , a home base for immersive artistic, academic听and cultural exploration for Tyler students since 1966.听

Program Format & Curriculum 听

With core courses aligned over two weekdays, students have considerable flexibility and choice when selecting art history, elective and seminar classes, either within Tyler鈥檚 graduate curriculum or across the university.听The Graduate Projects in Printmaking and Critique and Critical Discourse classes are foundational to the curriculum. Under the mentorship of a faculty member, students also work toward an MFA thesis exhibition in their final semester of study.鈥

Printmaking MFA students are encouraged to follow their creative research, often incorporating traditional printmaking mediums as well as a broad range of approaches, to print in an expanded field that includes installation, performance, video, animation听and other new media practices. Through cross-disciplinary coursework, students are encouraged to enter into other artmaking practices, and engage in emerging topics in the field and the broader art world.鈥

Tuition rates are set annually by the university and are affected by multiple factors, including program degree level (undergraduate or graduate), course load (full- or part-time), in-state or out-of-state residency, and more. These tuition costs apply to the 2024鈥2025 academic year.
